Sicce pumps are over rated......

how long has it been running like that Tangtang?

It has had the turbulence the entire time I have had the skimmer, since Nov. I noticed every 10 seconds or so, there seems to be a circular movement from left to right and it jolts right along the water/bubble line. Anybody ever experience this?
If it's not clear in the video, I can take a better one tonight.

What pinwheel does the best for a sicce pump?

the good ones are the ATB large Purple pinwheel and the MSX/SWC pinwheel, both perform in the 27-34SCFH range.

I still can't read that without getting a headache...

I think the title of this thread pics a fight with the wrong area. It isn't the pumps, it's the aftermarket additions to the pumps that cause people problems...

The title should read my mesh job is over rated. Or mesh is over rated;)

HAHA...Is this better?I never said there was anything wrong with the Sicce pump, I didn't even say that it wasn't a good pump. I said it was OVER RATED. I don't have the pin wheel to put up next to the Octo 3000. When I ordered the Sicce from MSX, they were offering the pin wheel if you asked for it. However I didn't know this until AFTER I paid for my pump, before the order was shipped. I Emailed them back and requested it. They conveniently did not oblige....I have spent enough on this machine and wont fork out anymore just to compare. With any skimmer the bottom line is not how much air it pulls or what country it's from. It's how much skimmate it pulls. I'm saying that I am pulling more skimmate, with NO troubles which equals NO worries.

Not trying to pick a fight. I am relaying my experience with these two pumps here. Some of you might not like it, but it is what it is.....

Possibly I should have titled it mesh mod over rated. But I still feel the Sice doesn't necessarily perform any better than the Octo 3000. All things being equal. I am going to re mesh the Sicce again and see if I have to eat my words. It is a 6 month or so old mesh job.

LOVE my PSK2500 on my Octo 800S... Best pump for me to date. With the pinwheel, NEVER one start up problem.

If its not broke, Im not gonna try and mesh it and break it! :)

Actually I think a more accurate measurement of how good a skimmer is, is the air it pulls and it's efficiency (construction, etc), not the amount of skim. The amount of skim is largely do to the tank conditions and how much stuff is in the water to pull out. Someone with a dirty tank (so to speak) can run a skimmer and get tons of gunk out while someone with a very clean tank might not get hardly any. Besides didn't you say this was a brand new pump? Did you do anything to prepare it (vinegar bath) or did you just put it in to service? I would think putting a brand new pump on a skimmer would cause a drop in performance until the pump is broken in, jmo.

No the pump is not a new pump. Did you read my post? I'm not ranting and raving, why is it when someone says something that is disagreeable they get attacked? Why is that? I suppose weakness.

There is sooo much more to a skimmer though than just air. My reference was skimmate pulled from the same tank. I have not moved the skimmer. Nor have I added any bio load, or changed feeding.

I snapped the shaft on the Sicce. I'll order another and the Pin wheel. Is reef specialty the only supplier of the purple pin wheel? They don't list a ceramic shaft. I'll need both.

No? Then why must you scream louder than everyone else by typing in either red or bold.
How about this................ you stated your personal observations, no one else sees it the same way, and maybe your right, who cares as long as youve got what you consider the best. COOL?

THIS WOULD BE SCREAMING! ALL CAPS EQUALS SCREAMING! This is easier to read. Red is easier to read also. I set a way back from my monitor and dont like to have to squint to see all the little type. EXCUSE ME FOR TRYING TO BE POLITE! Notice I was screaming there? Boy the worlds full of jerks aint it?

I just replaced My sedra9000 pw(because of size)with a psk2500 and I first tried it with the meshed impeller and it had bad startup problems and didnt trust it.Then I used the pw.It worked great but wouldnt fill the chamber without shutting off(Oh it is a euro-reef CS8-3,too tall???)So I retroed it to a recirulating pump.I must say I was a little impressed.I dont have a meter but I could tell a BIG difference between the sedra and sicce. The sicce is MUCH quiter also.I plan on buying another and using 2 of them.

Reefjunkie the 8-3 is 30" tall right? The Sicce starts having lower performance on skimmers over 24" tall, too much back pressure. You might want to look into the Eheim pumps, they handle the height and back pressure a lot better.

Hey charlie, if you really want people to critique you then show us pictures of your mesh mod. You've done it countless times so I'm sure we could all learn something.

I would like the five minutes back that I spent reading this thread. Can you please PM me your email address in standard text (no bold, italics, colors) so I can send a PayPal invoice? I work for around $35 an hour, so I will be billing you $2.92 (no tax).

Regards.

I was told the sicce operates best in the 30-40scfh range. I have a MW doing 45-50 and it seems too turbulent. Even though it is a skimming monster! If I take a turkey baster and suck up some of the skimmate from my cup, add it too the skimmer section, this skimmer will blow the lid off. Conclusion: sicce pump is excellent and tank is very clean. The skimmate I get is very green because of the extra algae and phyto.

I will not reply here any more.. you are not open to any thoughts than what you have..

Oh really, this is why I stated Maybe I should have tittled this thread differently. Also, that is why I remeshed ther Siccer to try it again....What is RC full of all the jerks that have been kicked off every other forum?

What because I dont say oh I was wrong, the Sicce is the most incredible pump? I just said I thought it was Overrated. Like Nike shoes are Overrated....

BTW I could care less if anyone quit reading the thread because they didnt like the type.
