Sick angelfish

about a week and a half ago I noticed my watanabe was acting funny and getting skinny. He stopped eating and swimming for about 2 days. now he eats like he's never eaten before and he's still getting skinnier along his spine. His stomach is a little swolen and his anus is red and swolen. Other than that he acts fine again and is eating really well. His color is really good as well. Oh and I think his gills are a little pink but it's hard to tell.

Is there some sort of bacterial or parasite that he could have. I'm getting ready to set up a quarantine tank for him as soon as I find out how to treat him. Oh and all my other fish are perfectly healthy. I have a tomato, two damsels and a female watanabe in there with him. they're fat colorful and happy.

Thanks.

A picture may help.

Its possible that your fish has an internal infection or perhaps something a simple as temporary constipation. What are you feeding?

If its an internal infection then QT combined with feeding fish food that has been saturated with some antibiotics may help. Seachem has a product called focus (i think?) that may help.

Unortunatly he looks perfectly fine just really skinny on the upper half. He's a little skinnier now then in this pic.

I'm feeding silver sides, mysis shrimp and some soft pellets that I soak in water before feeding to soften them a little more.

I think I'm going to set up a quarantine and treat him with some stuff for worms. Any reccomendations for meds to try?

Thanks for the response.

exactly. internal worms is my guess and id treat him for worms too.

I probley wouldent qt him for it if thats the only problem... but thats just me. and qt can help keep a real good eye on him.

what i like to use is from a company called gel'tek. It is an orange gel that contains both medicine praziqutel, and metrozel (the spelling is way off there sorry)

the directions are insane. starve your fish for a day, then try to get it to eat these drops off the top of the water.

ya...

I soak flake in the gel, then feed the flake. whatever works. any medicine you choose with those two medicines in them can be served on food if its eatting though :)

any white stringy poop?
thats a sure sign. I have a friend that had a worm crawl out of the side of the fishes body!! fish is ok now :)

oh. just to save you some time. geltek can be found in really easy spots. like petsmart petland ect. just get the orange gel.

Thanks for the referrence however if your saying that white stringy poop is a sign.......... his poop looks to be normal color and consistancy. Maybe it's something different then worms? I'm going to try the geltek anyway though.

Thanks.

Thanks for the link.... I just got a 20 gallon that I'm going to set up as a quarantine.... Just ordered some meds and hopefully they'll work.

Thanks again.
