Sick clown... recommendations & help

I watched them the whole time they were in the bath, 45 minutes, and was ready to remove them if something went wrong. They did well without the airstone for now.

just remember that the sickness is in the water and you have to get the fish back to health so they can fight off infection IMO

Will brookynella remain in the water column? Does it need a host, fish, to survive like ich? No signs of ich anywhere in the main or QT tanks. Just a lethargic clown. I am hoping that a dip every few days would help eliminate the problem and hoping it does get healthy again. Time will tell. Maybe treating the fish in the QT tank, a small amount of formalin in the QT water?

Yes you are correct, you can get at least 100 opinions on how to turn on the water faucet....

READ the directions on the treatment bottle and follow them. Do not make up a new routine or follow one you find on some website.

I have no idea why "itch" (sic) (this is actually ICK or short for Cryptocaryon irritans) got brought into this thread but Formalin will have no effect on that parasite.

Oxygenation: bacterial blooms (meaning lots of new ones) will deplete O2 levels. I am not so sure that killing off a parasitic organism will have the same effect. (but sounds pretty "fishy")

It will not hurt to aerate the water but again just follow the makers instructions on the bottle.....

I mentioned ick to ask if brookynella stays in the water column/tank like ick does. If ick has no host for a time then it does not survive, supposedly I guess. So if there are no fish in the tank would brookynella go away like ick? Forget about ick, I'm just confusing things, sorry.

Clown still not looking good, will follow directions on the bottle like you said to treat the QT tank.

I admit I don't know why, but formalin does deplete the water of O2. The directions should say to use an airstone or something to aerate the water. What I did was put a powerhead in the water for awhile to make sure it was nice an oxygenated to begin with and then used an airstone during the treatment.

Odd that the directions on the bottle do not mention to aerate the water at all. I have read a few things on the web to use an airstone, because like you said it does deplete O2. So far I did a dip for 45 minutes and watched the fish, with no aeration. They came out OK and I am waiting to see an improvement which may take a while.
