Hello Everyone. I added my first fish(true perc) last Thursday. This morning I awoke to my fiance saying that it was sick. One look at it and I noticed she had ich. I started a hyposalinity treatment at 6:30(CST) this morning in a QT, but I can't get her to eat. I tried to soak her food in garlic gaurd but still no interest. She is swimming stronger now than she was when I got in from work though so hopefully this is a good sign. Any suggestions on what I can do to help her will be very much appreciated. Thanks.

Tank Specs as of 6:30 AM CST
Salinity 1.025
PH 8.2
Temp 78.5
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 0
Amonia 0

No one around here carrys any but the local petsmart has the eggs I could hatch my own. How long will this take?

My brine usally take between 3-4 days to hatch and them another few weeks to reach adult stage. I would just go an order some through an online vendor to get it there quicker.
You should also try to use some cyclopeeze they love that stuff and try the CopperSafe and Maracyn treatment for the ick, listed by Dan works everytime.

The fish will eat once it is not as stressed. I've had amazing success with fresh water dips. If your 100% sure that you have a proper diagnoses, then go about a fresh water dip. There are many ways in which people do this and I have tried them all with only one producing the results desired. Here are the steps:

1) get a Medium dark Dark bowl, anything other than clear and has never seen soap..EVER!
2) Use tap water. just trust me on this, if you do it correctly its the right call.
3) match the temp of the fresh tap water Exactly to that of the aquarium.
4)If your not firmilar with the liquid product PRIME, you should should be. You will need around 1/4 capful of prime for this first dip. (You can get prime at petsmart)
5)do your best to makesure that you make the area as dark as possible(make sure you can see, but this is just to reduce stress to the fish). Also make sure the lights have been off on the tank for 2 hours( this makes the fish easy to catch).
6) you can use a net to collect the fish out of the tank to place it in the dip that you have prepared, however I prefer a basic plastic partycup. I collect the fish into the cup, and then drain almost 100% of the water hes in then swiftly transfer him into the bowl.
7)Now you Watch
8)The clown will be mellow, then calm, melow, then calm, and this will continue.
9) watch the ick itself, you will see it almost appear to take on a look more of an air bubble. Once you see this it is time to remove the fish and do it as quick and smooth as possible. Collect the fish, This time byusing a net, and then place him back into the aquarium and keep the lights off!
She will breath heavy, and may look worse at first but give her a few hours to regain composure. I would not attempt to feed her untill the following day.

10) this process will need to be repeated one more time two days from that first dip.

Then your perc should be look great.*( adding Prime in small doses to your aquarium where the perc is also helps produce a slim coat which is benifical to the recovery process and continued health of the animal) Let me know what size aquarium so I can help u with how you should dose..

Keep us posted..

Thanks for the responses. She was looking pretty bad when I left for work this morning. If she makes it through the day I will try the fresh water dip tonight. She is really stressed right now though and I don't want to loose her.

Bones18 - I have a 29 gallon tank.

Ricordiaking - I tried cyclopeeze and she didn't eat it either. Didn't try it soaked in garlic though.

:( well I have some bad news :(

I got home from work early this afternoon to find her dead. I didn't see any of the spots on her anymore. I am going to wait for 40 days before I get another fish because of the ich. I appreciate all of the help you all have given me and for making this such a great community with an abundance of information.

Sorry to hear. I lost my favorite clown not to long back, so I feel your pain.I do not know if its necessary to wait 40 days for ick. maybe if it was marine velvet. Just do slight water replacements over the next week and you should be fine. What type of filters are u runnin on ur 29? can u give the specs

I am running an Emporer 280, an AquaC Remora w/pre-skimmer and about 50 lbs of LR. I started the tank with 40lbs of dry sand and I am seeing lots of pods on the glass. For circulation I am using a closed loop, one like melev does on his 29(mag 7 with a SCWD). For lighting I am using the Coralife Lunaraqualights(2 x 65 watts PC). All I plan to keep is some softies and lowlight LPS. I would like to have a BTA one day as well for my clown(s). Fish wise I know the 29 is small to get crazy so my fiance and I have decided on a possible pair of clowns and maybe 6-line wrasse or a coral beauty. It is still up for discussion though.
