sick flasher wrasse- help

I got a flasher wrasse at the LFS yesterday (it is a very reputable shop). Got home and did a acclimation. When I went to add him to the display, his lip got caught in the net. I cut the net carefully, and let him go in the tank with the small piece of net on his mouth. I later saw him without the net. He the rest of the day yesterday, as I would expect for a new fish. Today, when I got home I see him sitting on the sand bad, and drifting around a little, maybe some heavy breathing.

He doesn't look good- any hope, or is he a gone? I know it not a disease- was it the acclimation?- the net incident?- is my tank too far off from the LFS?

he is coming up to the top of the tank near the surface, swimming around (not quite right, vertical at times) and then heading down to the sand and sitting there.

Do I leave him in- hope that he pulls thru- or take him out before he dies?

How did you acclimate? What is your SG versus the SG of the bag water? Learn to transfer fish without using a net.

I would vote on the acclimation process being part of the problem, you could alway test the SG of the water your fish comes in from the LFS to see if it way off from your tank. Providing your tank is where it supposed to be. The net incident may have further stressed out an already stressed fish.

not sure what the water was from the LFS, i assume 1.022 or so, I keep mine higher- 1.025. I used the same process I always use (slow drip), maybe this guy was more sensitive. He is still alive, its been about 30 hours. Can he make it, or has the damage been done?

Don't assume the SG of your LFS. Some keep their water much lower, e.g. 1.019 to save salt. More likely than not, this is the problem. You should always measure SG of source and target water.

i agree, i should have checked, although I got a yellow tank out of the same system, and acclimated the same way with no issues last month
