Sick Hippo Tang

Looking for advice on a sick Hippo Tang. Quarantined with marine velvet and treated with copper, it’s been 2 weeks of treatment now. Eats well but breathing heavy, flashes constantly and has skin scrapes. Unsure what the white marks on the side and underside of her are or how to help improve. Has had 2 fresh water dips for 6 minutes. No noticeable improvement in condition since any of the treatments. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you!

It doesn't look like Amyloodinium ocellatum (Marine Velvet) to me. More like Cryptocaryon irritans (Marine Ich). However it can be properly and best identified under a microscope. Both these parasites attack gills and that is usually what prompts flashing.

Since you are treating with copper no need to do FW dips. How are you controlling the copper concentration? Controlling it at just the proper concentration is important -- not too low to allow the parasite to live; not to high to harm the fish.

You should read these posts:
Download then read, the Copper Treatment Procedure document
Download then read, the Fish Nutrition document

It's good the fish is eating...just be sure it is eating proper foods. Add vitamin supplements to its diet as suggested in the above nutrition post.
