Sick Kole Tang in QT

I have been looking at a Kole at my LFS for many weeks now. He had some "pale spots" on him since then (see tail in pic). Today I saw him moved to a larger invertebrate tank, active and grazing. There as also something in the eye that I am not sure.

Anyways, if it were marine velvet it would not have survived it I would think. She shows no sign of ich too. That leaves HLLE in the picture. I got him at a reduced price and put him in my 20L QT. The only other inhabitant is a harmless citrinus goby. I proactively put a does of Ich Shield (Chloroquine) to take parasites out of the equation. Not sure if it is a good idea as the tang is not looking too active. At one point it was laying on the side wall. Now it's inside a PVC piece. I have 2 large pieces of Nori tied to rock but it does not seem to graze on it. Earlier it had started eating off the walls and some of the food laying around. However I think it is running out of things to graze.

Here's a picture of him. I have ordered Zoecon, Selcon etc. Will get it 2 days later. Anything else I can do to make sure this guy makes it in QT?

(I have cleaned up the mess so don't mind :) )

My Kole Tang took a couple of weeks in my QT before it would touch any prepared foods. It started eating smaller meaty foods. It would not touch nori until it was in my display tank and saw others eating it. Mine was able to sustain itself in QT, as I had lots of live rock for it to pick at all day.

My kole tang would always hide in he pipe in qt. it could see me from 20 ft away easy and hide. I checked on it the first night and turned the lights on and it was flat on the bottom. Thought it was dead but it was sleeping. It may be scared and feeling comfort to the side of the glass. Mine started eating bloodworms, then pellets, and I would notice the nori disappear after a few days.
After 5 weeks put in DT and he was shy for a few days but now comes to the glass when I approach. Constantly grazing on the rocks too which is neat.

I QT'ed my Kole Tang for about 18 days and used paraguard. It would not eat. I wanted to do 21 days but read that many people had the same issue in QT. I put him in the display tank and as soon as I did he paired up with my mystery wrasse and immediately ate like a pig. I think he wasn't comfortable at all in QT and was very happy in the display. He literally ate like 5 minutes later. He has been going strong for over a year now.

Yeah that's what I am worried about him not eating. He remains holed up in the pipe all the time. The nori I put on rock is almost broken into shreds and all over the tank, wondering if it will cause an ammonia spike or not. If the nori is floating around and some on the floor maybe it will eventually eat it. Will post updates on this thread.

I would remove the nori. It won't eat it. Do you have another QT you could setup with some live rock? That would be much better than a "sterile" QT IMO.

The problem is all my live rock is algae free. My DT tank is only 2 months old. Didn't see much algae on rock's for sale at the LFS as they don't provide any lights on the containers. Is the point merely to keep the tang busy? If so I can just put the rock from my DT there.

I know it's against the rules to put a piece of LR in a QT but I do it for a couple of reasons, it helps with filtration and it gives a fish like a tang something to pick at which reduces the fishs' stress. But be prepared to toss it or move it into a holding area in the event disease strikes and you have to treat.

No, the rock should be established live rock. They spend all day picking at rocks and glass.
