sick maroon clown

Eats and swims normally, but I noticed a few issues tonight.

First, one of her cheek spines is broken. Instead of a pointy tip it is just white.

Second, there is an opaque spot near her dorsal fin.

Lastly, both eyes have small cloudy spots on them. They don't cover the show eye, just the center.

You should be able to see all 3 issues in the photo. All other fish in that tank are healthy.

The cloudy eyes (in both eyes) is a symptom of a bacterial infection. If you can QT, you can treat her with antibiotics. If not, all you can do is soak her food is Selcon, Zoecon, Vita-chem, etc., and hope her natural immune system can overcome it.

Thanks for the reply. What kind of antibiotics should I use?

Furan-2 should do the trick and is usually widely available. Maracyn/Erythromycin would be another good choice. I would love to get some feedback about the new "Maracyn Plus", but I'm not suggesting your clownfish be my guinea pig. :strange:

Remember to only use any of the above in a QT environment. None are reef safe.

Good advice!

Finally got the qt set up but I noticed something else this morning. She had smal white spots on her that looked like ich. I looked a little closer and it appeared the spots where not under the skin. She swam in front of a powerhead and some of the spots came off. Later in the day I noticed new spots in different areas. Is this just sand or a disease?

If a powerhead blew some of the spots off, it's likely just sand. A powerhead can't blow parasite cysts off that are embedded under the skin. My female maroon just loves to use her tail to dig & throw sand all over my tank. Likely that's all it is. :)
