sick puffer

My GF puffer is acting very strange, all he wants to do is sit on the rocks with his eyes shut and refuse to eat. He is also a very dark color defiantly not doing well. I increased the flow in the tank and tested the water. Nitrate 0 nitrite .25 Ammonia 0 and the ph was 7.8 so I'm going to the store tomorrow to get some buffer. Would low ph cause this odd behavior.

A puffer refusing to eat is troubling.
The ammonia reading is also strange. You should never have ammonia in a cycled tank. Try a different test kit.
Do you check your KH? Make sure that is ok, and you won't have ph problems.
I didn't know fish could close their eyes.
Good luck. My puffer is my favorite fish, and I would hate to loose him.

i think he said his ammonia was at zero, what has he been eating ? can you see any visable lumps

he ate krill a couple of days ago usually I feed him every other day varying from tiger shrimp, squid and scallop all enriched with vitachem and garlic. He seems like hes coming around but now his eyes are a bit clouded over. The only thing I did differently recently was I used tap water to a water change instead of ro. My ammonia did read 0 but I did have a small amount of nitrite.
