sifters for crushed coral

What are you using to sift/stir crushed coral in your mantis tanks? I'd like to get some diggers for the substrate in my Peacock tank, but the only snails that are likely to be able to get the job done are jumbo nassarius. I don't fancy paying that much for escargot.

Has anyone had success with sand sifting starfish or cucumbers and crushed coral?
