Signs of RBTA preparing to split?

I've had a 9" RBTA in my 34g RSM for five months now. A few weeks ago it began to open less each day and finally started shrinking up after the lights were on for about 4 hours. It would shrivel up really small and poo lots. It is still happening, and a few days ago it moved to another area in the tank where it is darker. Is this a sign that it will split soon?

I'm not sure if yours is will be splitting soon or not. IME, usually my anemone split after recent daily feeding of pieces of silversides/frozen food. Have you been feeding your anemone more than often? Or have you been neglecting your tank?

Nems will usually split because it's either happy and think that there will be continue food, so it spends it's energy to split. Also, it'll split if the conditions are deteriorating and it needs to split to survive.

I've only caught mines once when it was in the middle of splitting. Both halfs of the nem is still kinda puffed up with only a little strand holding both pieces together. Mines also didn't move much before the split and after the split.

Have you changed out your bulbs or carbon lately? It sounds like it is getting to much light.

I recall everytime my BTA was about to split, it would bloat up to almost twice it's size like it was being pumped full of air. Then the tear would form and split down the middle. I should have caught it on video at the time.

Mine also develop a 2nd mouth just before it splits. Is that visible at all?

Sure doesn't sound like it is going to split to me --- and if it does, it is a survival split. Something is wrong, I would check all your parameters.

I was lucky enough to watch one of my split (( many years ago, back when I had them, and didn't have a camera )). The whole process took all of 30 minutes, and prior to it starting it looked the exact same as it always had.

I have 4 other RBTA and 1 GBTA in the tank and they are doing great! My 9" would host my clowns, but now they took up my 12". I feed all my anemones twice a week. I feed them the amount of large mysis shrimp equal to 1/3 of a silver side. The anemone is half way up the tank under 110w PC. I have anemones (my 12" and 5") that are 1" or less away from the surface and they seem fine so I don't think it is getting too much light. About the carbon... uhhh... am I supposed to change that? I have a bag of it in one of the filter chambers that came with the tank... it's been in there for about 7 months. Should I take that out or something... :/

I have a GBTA and it has split 3 times in the past year it would do the same as Ebisan said his does.

as far as I know carbon should be changed every few weeks.

Sorry to hear the bad news. How are the others doing? Can you check and list all your water parameters? When was your last water change?
