In your case, I would consider vodka (and/or vinegar) dosing to create a bacteria driven system to control nitrates as well. You may also use less GFO and achieve a better nutrient balance with some care. There are lots of posts on these methods you can find by using the search feature. JMTC & GL!

I am running about 3/4 the recommended amount of GFO on a 120 gallon in a brs dual chamber reactor along with rox 0.8 carbon. I have a feeling that the high grade carbon is over efficient. I am feeding very little every other day. I am confused as to my high nitrates but my seemingly low nutrient levels.
