Silicone for sump

I am building a DIY sump for my 75g tank, its a 20 gallon long tank. Im adding baffles in it and seperating it in 3 sections. One for the fuge, one for the skimmer, and one for the return pump.

I have clear silicone window and door caulk from work(I work for a builder), it says on the tube 100% silicone. Is this safe to use in my sump?

Thanks Brad

Nevermind I found my answer!

I read in a previous thread that someone asked about using GE Silicone I/ Window and Door caulk, and was told it was ok. Just as long as it doesnt have any mold inhibaters in it.

If you use silicone, make sure that you are using all glass components. 100% silicone wihtout mold inhibitors will work. make sure that it is clear and without color pigmentation as well.

Silicone will not stick to lexan or plexiglass.

After you get your baffles in place, give them a three or four days before getting them wet. this will really give the silicone time to cure properly and be ready for what you are going to throw at it.

you do not need to buy the silicone that is spacially labeled for aquariums. that stuff is expensive and does the same job as 100% silicone.

good luck and have fun with your project

I'm not sure if it's because I used Goop or if it's a myth that acrylic can't be attached to glass. I have two repairs made of Lexan stuck to a glass tank w/ Goop and I couldn't remove them if I wanted to (well, without tools). YMMV.

GE I silicone works great for glass to glass, like stated above make sure it doesn't have any mold inhibitators in it and clean the glass with rubbing alcohol before glueing.
