could i use just regular silicone i buy at HOme Depot to attatch a DIY overflow to the inside of my tank without it being toxic?

I am wondering the same thing. There are three different products from GE that all claim to be 100% silicone. I they are all 100% silicone how can they be different? What type do people use?

you want the window & door silicone I not II. They are both 100% silicone, but they have different curing agents. I have found the silicone II does not cure as well when wet. just MHO.

I just use the All-Glass brand silicone from the fish shop. Its not much more expensive, in the scheme of things.

Agreed on the window and door silicone 1. I used it in my sump, and it worked like a champ.
