It really depends..... I would glue any and everything that leads up to the sump, then I usually leave the part Im using as a nossle just pressure fit incase I ever need to clean it. If it leaked it wouldnd be a problem because its already in the sump.
I glue every PVC fitting but I use threaded bulkheads and threaded nipples along with unions so it can all be disassembled for cleaning and maintenance. I always use a barbed nipple and short piece of flexible tubing off of all pumps so vibration and sound does not travel through the piping or cause any undue stresses on the pipe, pump or bulkheads. I try to support any pipe coming out of bulkheads so you don't put stress on the gaskets causing them to possibly leak. And use plenty of valves along with the unions or true union ball valves so its easy to get pumps and other components out for cleaning or replacement. A little preplanning and laying everything out ahead of time goes a long way for serviceability.
If it isn't holding much pressure you can securely push them together, but you're asking for trouble. Connections under water usually don't have to be glued though, if the flow won't blow them apart that is.
