Simu-L Stick Question

Hello.... just got an L stick today. I am running it on L3/L4 with the standard programming except for some time changes.

The light seems very white... Is ther a way to make it appear more blue? And, by doing so, will that impact the appearance of the "lightining" storm?

You program the led and choose the moonlight color. You have a choice between white, light blue and dark blue. It will not effect the lighting storm.

Thanks J.... I haven't got into the "Program LED" function. I saw that button in Control, but didn't want to go there just yet. Now I will adventure! LOL.

P.S. Is it me or are these cables really short?

is this in the manual ?? I just look and could not find it.

I would like to know more about this option and what they do.

Yep, I found it... in the "3.16 Extras" section. It's on page 51/68, "3.16.12 Programming LED Lights." There's a little more on the Wiki site here:

http://ghl.wiki-site.com/index.php/Re-programming_LED_light_units

My one remaining question is about the instruction that says only the light should be connected. Are they talking about disconnecting everything connected to the L ports or everything, period? Does that mean I have to disconnect my digital powerbar and my ph and temp probes too?

P.S. OK, I have one more question: is the factory default the "blue white moonlight" or the "light blue moonlight?"

Lucky I added that section in the wiki the other night :)

It is just items that are connected to the L ports that need to be disconnected.

I believe the default is Blue white.

Only the L ports should be disconnected for the programming

Easy to program. However, the light, even at deep blue, has a lot of white LED output. Is there a method to turn down the white LEDs but keep up the intensity of the blues?

Here you want it more blue and I want it more white
(The moon is white since it is just reflected sunlight so more natural).

I found if you run the Simu-L Sticks at 30% or lower it is almost pure blue.

I add a little red (3%) to make it look more eye pleasing.

Harry, where did you find the Control function that lets you add the 3% red? All I'm finding is the Program LED button, but that doesn't get into such gradients.

I belive he controlls it via the illumination section where you set the moonlights and sunrise to start and end. :)

Creetin, thx.... I was thinking that there was some sort of control to lierally control specific LED colors (aka Harry programming red). I wasn't thinking about using the illumination function for this control.

I owe thanks to Todd at Cherry Corals. I was planning to get the blue moon tubes, but these simu-sticks are a whole lot more fun! Now I have to hurry and get to the tank, becasue the storm is about to start!

P.S. We had major storms this weekend. 100,000 people lost power this eve about 6pm due to lightning and 80 mph winds here in the D. With that backdrop, the lightning effect so so real, it's hard to tell whether the flash is from the tank or outside unless I'm paying attention!

Also, since I've added this stick, my aussie Scoly have never been so open at night for feeding --- very unusual. Coincidence?

Finally, after playing with a lot of combos, I settled with the exact same balance as Harry. If you're in a Disco mood, try red 30% at night. It's a look, that's for sure!

P,P.S. Odd and interesting... I've had this moon coral for three years, and it really never displayed much activity at night. Tonite, it looks like a ultra fuzzy and wavy ball! A few sweepers out as well. And the ouphylia that I've had for a week is also ultra expanded. Could this L-stick be that effective? I've had LEDs over the tank for quite some time, but haven't seen any activity like this!

Wait till to go fully dimmable (t-5's & Simu-L sticks)

Thats when you see the corals change shape etc as the lights dim.

BTw I reprogrammed my Simul-Sticks to Blue-white, now they look far more natural.

I still run about 3% red (via an illumination ch), it makes it softer on your eyes.
