Singapore Angel

I have a 29 gallon that has been set up for 3 weeks. I used live sand and live rock, which I have 15 lbs. I have a Singapore angel that I got a week ago that I cant get to eat. She seems to be doing good, because she pecks at a piece of cured rock that I bought for her to have some algae. I have tried flake food, mysid shrimp, brine shrimp, and dried seaweed. I have also noticed a lot of new dark maroon algae on my live rock . Is this good or bad. I am new to this hobby and any help will be greatly appreciated.

well first off that tank is very small for a singapore angel it can grow to 6.7 inches and is recomended for a tank of 55 gal. or more. next your tank has only been setup for 3 weeks can i ask what your water parameters are? as for the alage sounds to me like it is canyo which is all part of a new tank and will leave as time goes on. also what kind of equpipement do you have? the more we know about your tank the better

I have a Penguin 280 hang on filter and 15lbs of live rock. My ammonia is .25 and nitrites is 0 and nitrates is 20. I ask the local fish store if the singapore was a dwarf and iI expressed concern of my 29 gal tank. He said it was fine, OF COURSE. I really wanted the flame instead but it was 89.00. I am very new to this and have read a lot since getting it. Any help would be appreciated. So do you think the red will go away in time or is there anything that I should do.

Sometimes fish that tend to have poor survivability are priced very cheap :(

Singapore angels often fit into this category - but the good news if you get a healthy one they tend to do quite well.

Try live brine shrimp & small frozen marine mysis shrimp from H2O Life. Some say soaking the food in garlic juice can entice a fish to eat. Buy some RAW CLAMS & put them in your tank still in the shell - they l-o-v-e clams.

I wouldn't necessarily go out of my way for this -- but if you have access to inexpensive macro alge - a big bag of it into your main tank may go a long way toward making your fish feel safer. (Confine it to one area of your tank)

If it dies :( start your tank out with a more hardy fish. And probably not any angels just yet in my opinion. :)
