Who all has or has had a Singapore Angelfish? Failures, successes, special care needs, any info welcome.

I have mixed emotions about the use of this fish in the hobby.

I've got one that's done very well, but most do not. The key is to get one that looks fat and is eating. They tend to be very shy at first and some just waste away.

Once they're acclimated and eating, they're easy, but can be obnoxious like any angel.

Mine eats anything I put in. I feed it a mix of frozen foods, including mysis, squid, shrimp, clam, scallop, cyclopeeze, nutramar ova, angel formula, and nori soaked in vitamins. I also feed New Life Spectrum and Formula Two pellets.

They are known to eat soft corals. Mine is in a tank filled with softies and, except for a few nips on some anthelia, he's never bothered anything.

Got this guy from a sps dominated reef tank where he resided for 3 years.
He's been a great addition and thus far a model citizen. He eats whatever I throw in the tank.

Well, I couldn't help myself, I bought one thursday and he seems to be doing great he is not eating prepared food yet but is grazing on the rocks and is fat and seems healthy. He did give my large blue velvet damsel an attitude adjustment that was overdue. Just hoping he continues to do well.

Angels are tough guys my tangs gave mine the business but he was undeterred. I encourage you to feed often until you get him to eat. Best of luck its a beautiful fish.

I would suggest you get some new life spectrum thera a pellets. I've had good luck getting finicky angels to eat them before anything else I've offered, including mysis or even brine shrimp.

He's eating. When I fed yesterday he was actively taking mysis and is doing great, I am very encouraged.

They do seem to have different personailites. I had one and had to get rid of him, because of his aggression. He ate everything that was put in the tank.

I believe most of the ones seen in stores are doomed from the start. The first two I tried died in a few weeks. Before trying again, I watched every one I could find in fish stores for many months until I found one that was eating and did not have a pinched belly.
This is especially difficult here in New York since most fish sell so quickly there is no chance of watching one for a few weeks to see how it does.

The two I have now were purchased several months apart and are doing beautifully in my 180.
One is bold, one is a scared of everything. Both nip corals a bit but do no damage.

He's still doing well although he will not eat every time I feed he eats some days, some days he just grazes on the rock and looks and acts healthy!!!!!!!!!

Update!!!!!!! This guy is eating more each time I feed and is eating algea like crazy and has not bothered any corals. He seems healthy as can be.

Here it is 16 months after I acquired him and he is doing well even after a massive fish and livestock die off he and two damsels survived. I have yet to determine the cause of the die off but water change after water change no more deaths. These are hardy fish.

Had this guy for over two years now. He has a taste for xenia can't grow it with him around but that is fine with me this is a beautiful fish.
