Is it normal to have a single polyp in a colony close for a few days. I dont see any pests or pox. The rest of the colony and other colonies in the tank are fine and budding.
thanks
I had a 2 polyp frag (now 4) of green speckled PE's and one of them closed for almost 2 weeks and opened up randomly like nothing happened.
There was a post around that had alot of info about zoas and potential issues but I don't remember the title of it. One of the things in the post was that they can randomly close for up to 14 days to expel any toxins they have aquired. I'm not saying this is what is happening, but it is a possibility.
Nothing like zoa de-tox to make you think your starting to lose them.
not sure if it some type of slow melt or what. First polyp looks like mat now. Another a few polyps away seems to be staying closed now. Looked at night and didnt see any predators.

Polyp retraction is common and should be expected periodically. One or a few polyp is ok and it could be attributed to many reasons or none at all. Polyps are and can be temperamental and just not open sometimes for no reason at all. I've had them to retract for a week or more, only to expand completely the next day. Parasites are always a possibility, but usually more than one or two polyps are affected. Take a peak at the link below for future reference and good luck with your polyps, but I wouldn't worry about the single polyp closure unless it begins to affect other polyps/colonies.

Here is a pic, best I can do. Circled in red is where the first polyp to close used to be and blue is the more recent one to close. The closed one under the blue circle is a new polyp that hasnt opened yet. Under that one out of view is a new polyp that is open. The lights just came on before I took the picture so the others arent fully open yet.
