single rw8 on a 30breeder enough flow?

Is it enough? I'm sure it is.

Would I want just 1 powerhead in a tank? No. I always prefer to have 2 power heads working against each other. The redundancy of having 2 powerheads is also a benefit in my books.

Personally, I think that's minimal. I have 2 in my 40B and the swirl is, IMVHO, okay. I would like to have the ability to knock things around a bit more though.

These and a 15 are going in my new 75 next weekend, powered by a Syncra 4. If that doesn't knock stuff around more I'll just hook up a 30HP Yamaha outboard :D

They drop in power too fast to be enough. I would get two and alternate cleaning. The RW's are much better than the older models but they still lose a lot of punch over time. My 15's can blow sand around in my 150 but after a couple of months the flow is pathetic.

I thought they weren't losing power and was quite happy, but unfortunately I was wrong.

I keep hearing this and it just makes me regretting buying 3 of these things. So tempted to go and buy some mp40qds now..

I'm trying to limp through the next 8-9 months and then I'll drop a pair of MP40s in my system too. Or Tunze, still haven't decided to be honest.

I bought my first Tunze to put behind rockwork in my 150. I needed the same mount as the RW's on a pump that is very reliable since I won't be cleaning it often, if at all. The price hurts and I won't be replacing my RW15's up in each back corner. Easy to remove for cleaning, I just need to be less lazy about it. :)

Ime, you have to take these pumps apart often and thoroughly clean them to have good power/flow.

Just because of this thread I went to go play with my jebaos. Definitely huge loss in a power after 1 month of not cleanring. Before on W1, 75% power it would continously suck in air, not it doesn't even do it at 100%. These powerheads have not been moved, time for some cleaning I guess.

Ah crap guys now I'm going to have to go check mine... Thanks a lot. Never cleaned them in 9 months. So much harder than my mp40s to clean because of all the cords etc have to come out. Mp40s just pull out the wet side and your done.

If you have an rw series be careful when opening the housing. The mounting edge has super sharp corners. Make sure to thoroughly clean the impeller shaft/magnet.
