Single shroom, no rock... how do I attach it?

I purchased a single mushroom anemone from the LFS. It seems to be doing well in the tank, but I can't keep it in one spot. (I have a powerhead that doesn't like to stay suctioned onto the side. Any thoughts on how to fix THIS problem, too??) It seems to have little bits of sand and such on the bottom of his stalk, so I don't think it'll want to attach to anything. Can I use super glue for this? (I hear they aren't fond of super glue.) Or should I cut off the polyp and have it re-attach? I'd prefer not to use the latter method, as I'd still have a stalk base that is live that I don't know what to do with, and I really don't want to toss it in the garbage.

Any thoughts? Thanks! :)

I've glued a few shrooms. As long as there is and on it's foot it will attach. As soon as you have it glued put it back into the water. It will cool the glue and speed u the curing process.

I've decided to try and just snip the very base off of the polyp and have it reattach. Anyone know where I can get a fine plastic mesh to hold it to the rock?

two ways i do this....

1. superglue gel.....put the wad of glue gel on a dry piece of rubble and let it sit for a couple of minutes..while you are waiting for it to partially set up...take a q-tip or two and wipe the slime off of the mushroom where you are going to set it in the glue.......then set it in the glue and leave it out to dry for several minutes......then put in a low flow area for a couple of days

2. get a shallow glass bowl and put a bunch of rubble in it...put the shroom(s) in it and set on floor of aquarium.......the idea is that there is enough current so that they dont rot but not so mcuh current that they will blow out of the bowl...they will attach in a few days to whatever rubble is underneath them

Thanks for the advice. I'm thinking I'll do the bowl thing. But what if there's already little pieces of sand covering where it'll attach? I'm not sure how it'll hold to rock.

if the sand is there then the superglue method will be easy. The super glue won't affect the shroom as much and will make for a solid space for glue to be applied.

Well, what I've started with is placing the shroom on a rock where I'd like it, then placing a fine fish net over it to gently hold it where it is. Hopefully it won't irritate the poor guy too much and will get the job done. It's not really pushing down on it, it's just keeping it from moving side to side. Think it'll work?

you're lucky there is sand stuck to the bottom already. I've got a couple frags that I just cant get to stay put. I've tried sewing, glueing, sewing and gluing, putting in with rubble, etc, and they just dont want to cooperate. When I glued or sewed, or both, my astrea snails tear them loose at night. I've got them secluded in a basket suctioned to the glass now, hoping the snails dont decide its a good place to dine, but from all the tries, the frags are getting pretty thin.

If i would have had some sand already attached, gluing the sand to rock would have been a piece of cake.

I got a couple of very pretty blue/teal mushrooms at my local club meeting last night but they wernt attached to anything, so i put them on rocks and put a rubber band across and around them to keep them stuck to the rocks what do yall think about this method? BTW i hear magnet grips work wonders for the powerhead prob but mine are still doing fine with suction cups.
Thanks
Ryan

i tried a new way of attaching..an it worked..its simple..
take the needle cap off a syrindge an stick thru the mushroom..
i did it on a RIC ..into the rock..an put in a low flo part of the tank an give it a week or 10 days.. hope it works for you...

I have used this method with success. I would suggest that you use the band to get them to attach to a small rock... then glue that rock where you want it in your tank. Its a pain trying to get a rubber band to stay put on a large rock while trying not to bump your other corals.

When I added those..... I would use wedding veil. Cut a nice area of it and put it over the shroom or softie. Use rubber bands to hold the veil, but not directly on the softie.
Holds them down and does not crush them. Did not matter if they were in low or high flow areas. After around a week and half, take of the veil and they were attached.

I've just put a rock on top of them. ( a small rock, or a corner or a larger one. ) They attack under the rock, and to the rock they're on top of. Then I cut them loose, and I've got two shrooms, one on each rock! :D
