Siphon breaks FYI

Just wanted to share with all of you a situation that happened to me the other night. Our utility company had a (scheduled power outage) And I had a small mess/flood. I use an overflow box Utube design. I have never had a problem with it losing siphon and it did not in this case either. The problem I had was my return lines from my sump siphoned water to my sump and caused a mess. The siphon break holes that I had drilled in the pvc became clogged with Coraline algae(MY Fault) I opened them up and all should be Aok now. If you are using siphon break holes you might want to chech them out. I wish I would have. Anyway all is well anI just wanted to share.

Next time dont submerge your returns. THeres no reason to submerge them unless you're running a TON of water between your sump and tank.

I had the same thing happen...while I was in Europe. The tank died

I take no chances now....my return line now simple ends barely 1/4" below the surface.

you could also drill more then one hole. maybe put 1 in the back and 1 in the front. or just not submerge all the way like the previous post.

your sump should always be deisgned to be able to hold the water that leaves the tank in case of a power failure. check valves or not, never know when something will fail.

Thats what I do. Always design your sump to hold the tank water, that way, no matter what fails, you will not have a flood. Yeah, it wastes some space in the sump, but I feel sound when I am out of town and thats worth it.
