Sirjohn's 92 Gallon Corner

sirjohn,
I have been keeping an eye on your tank for the past couple of months. It looks great. I have the same tank and a similar stand, that has been running for about a year, however all of the equipment is second hand and we are wanting to upgrade. I was wondering if you can answer a few questions about your tank set up for me? What are the lights attached to? How are the lights configured, are they centered or staggered? Looking in my hood I was thinking 24", then 3-36" then 2-24", or was there a better way to make them fit. Do you find that the t5's are powerful enough for everything in your tank, namely the Anemone? Do you like the vortech's? Do they provide enough circulation by themselves? Right now we have 3 powerheads that are very ugly and I don't think they provide enough flow. We were thinking of breaking down our tank to add a sump, and in the mean time we could add spray bars behind the rock. Or do the vortechs add enough flow behind the rock without spray bars? Would love to see updated pictures if you have any.
Thanks,
Marcie

Marcie, keep in mind that spray bars usually call for a pressure rated pump, and usually take a lot of GPH...

Also, I am sure his t5's on individual reflectors are enough for anything, but if you are worried you can always fit a Mh + t5 supplement. I have a Lumenarc Stealth Mini De, + 2x24" T5 and 1x36" t5 on my 92 corner canopy.

The best looking tank I've ever seen (and I read ToTM). Everything is so well planned out down to the last detail -- it's aesthetically pleasing in every aspect.

I love it.

Great setup! I am actively looking at setting up a corner tank in our family room and hope to use your setup as the model.

One thing though, does anyone know if there is such a thing as starfire glass for curved glass on the 92 gallon?

Sorry all. between work and Christmas and all, I haven't had a chance to update the thread and answer all of the questions. I'll try to answer all the questions as best as I can.

Great Job on the setup... aquascaping... stand and canopy...actually, EVERYTHING!!!! Husky turned me over to your thread as I just bought a 92 corner as well. Your thread (& his) will be very insightful. If its not to much to ask, I was wondering if I can see your set up one day in person? Congrats on the great tank and work!!

Thanks Bernie for your comments. PM me and perhaps we can set up a date so you can see the tank in person.

Marcie, the lights are attached to a piece of plywood, that is placed on L-brackets in the canopy. This was done because the canopy is 12" tall and mounting the T-5s directly on the ceiling of the canopy would put them too far away from the water. The T-5s are staggered this way: 24"-36"-36"-36"-36"-24"-24"-24". It was the only way I could make them all fit. When all T5s are on, the Icecap 660 ballast overdrive them to 400 watts. Plenty of light for anything. The anemone is getting huge by the way. Updated pictures coming up later. The Vortechs at full speed will push 6000 gallons of water. Too much for a 92 that's not BB actually; I have them dialed back to around 60-70% each. As long as you keep the rocks away from the walls, the water goes everywhere.

Quick question, not sure if this has been covered before, but where did you get your sump from?

thanks

The sump is an ADHI sump sold by www.championlighting.com

alittlephishy, Husky_1, mg426, Chibils and tomkb, thank you all so much for your comments.

This, as all tanks, is a work in progress. I will add some updated pictures later.

Great looking tank! I wish I would have found the alternative stand and canopy options before setting my Oceanic 92 with their matching stand and canopy in 2005!

Thanks for the reply to my questions. We bought 2 vortechs second hand. Hope they work well for us too. They are not the wireless wavedriver ones, but we can always upgrade. Still waiting to buy lights though. Thanks again,
Marcie

I think it's time for some updated pics. I know, needs more corals! Unfortunately, this build has been REALLY SLOW due to work commitments, but I've recently kick-started the project again.

First, an updated full-tank shot with my less than stellar picture taking skills. I recently redid the aquascaping to make a crescent, lagoon island in the middle of the tank. I can't decide whether to scrape the coralline off of the back walls...

Some cool shots I took using the natural curves of a 92 gallon...

You can barely see one of my 2 GSM clowns at the door of the "cave"...

Some pictures of my livestock. Just a start! Here's my Purple Tang, I wish he would eat that Caluerpa!

NewNanoTankPictures2029.jpg

One of my 2 Bartlett's Anthias. Not as colorful as I want them, but I've started feeding Cyclop-eeze so we'll see.

And one of my crocea and some corals. I bought the crocea and brain a little bleached and I'm trying to nurse them back to health.

More to come as the build progresses!

Hey sirjohn, I would love to see how the sump looks now. Were you able to keep it so organized as you added equipment? I am really looking for inspiration. During my tear down/bring up I planned on doing some things like adding t but it just did not end up panning out :(
