six line in peacful reef

If you have either a very high nutrient tank or a mandarin that loves frozen food your good sixlines are very aggressive eaters and may out compete the mandarin for food.

I have to agree. My experience is that they look great and are ok for a while, but then they turn into jerks and become aggressive.....

mine did this and then must have felt bad about it,cause he decided life on the carpet was a better life than in the tank lol

I have had one for about 5 years he's been a great fish never bothered anything at all and even better yet he eats flatworms and red bugs. But trust me I am in the minority

I do have a Leopard Wrasse and a Cleaner Wrasse that live really well together in the 120g though..Pretty funny,I put nori in for the tangs and they both eat it at the clip with the tangs lol

I have chromis clowns bangaiis watchman gobies and a very very tiny white with red stripe goby that is maybe 1/2 in long

I have a 6-line that keeps to himself. He definitely is always on the hunt for food, constantly picking at the rocks and sand. The other small fish in the tank include a toby puffer, blue/green chromis, bicolor blenny and a flame hawk.

i have a sixline. when he was in my 125g he was great, and always got along with everything. now that he is in a 14g he became aggressive. i will have to move him out to small of a tank for him.

I have Six lines in a couple reef tanks with several other fish. I have found that they do better in the larger tanks with other fish. in my systems, they are perfect tank mates to this point.
Now this is not to say that they cannot be aggressive, but i think just about any fish CAN get nasty.
Hard to know how any one fish will act.
Heck I have had Chromis go rogue and chase other fish around.

i hear they eat everything im wondering if they can be with maroon and golds? ik there aggressive but will it take food away from gobies or blenys?

i have six lines in both my reef tanks to keep the flat worms at bay...which they do a wonderful job. Never had any problems with either of them, and haven't seen them being nasty at all. I agree, indeed, that ANY fish can do a 180, however.

Generally a six line has a little attitude but is harmless to most fish. The part that concerns me is that you note you like mandarins. If you do keep the two together, keep a watchful eye. I tried that combo before and within months the sixline started pounding on the mandarin.

i've got mandarins in both tanks. Maybe I just got lucky...but no issues. Been together in 90g for over a year, 120g since late February.

In a 125g...they may be able to "lose" each other...but that's what Mel has, too. So again....we are back to "maybe...maybe not." Me personally? I'd give it a shot but watch closely.

Mine was bad in a 90 g.attacked Chirilabrus wrasses to near death. Went after other small fish too.

can a sixline be safe with clowns in a 20g. or will they fight for food?
my tank is much smaller thts why i ask
