Six-Line Jumper

I've had a six-line wrasse for over a year. This morning I found it on top of the eggcrate I used to keep him from jumping. I had lost other fish prior to using the eggcrate. My lights are in a unit with legs that are about 6 inches above the tank. Is there something else I can use to prevent jumpers? I had removed the glass tops last summer because of heat. I now have a 30g sump under the tank. Should I replace the eggcrate with the glass again. Would the sump help with heat?

Thanks.

One idea would be to zip tie some fiberglass window screen to the eggcrate. This will cut down a little light though. I only put my eggcrate on at night after the lights go off or if I am going to be away for an extended period of time. I have a six line and a diamond goby. I did lose one diamond goby a while back, he managed to get up through the eggcrate one night.

Carrie,

Did you ever consider having an enclosed canopy built? You can keep your top open, mount the lights in the canopy, and keep the jumpers inside.

Might be an option! Sorry about your wrasse. :(

No Jamie, I really don't want a canopy. I like the easy access to my tank. The hood I have is all enclosed on legs.

Ben, not sure what fiberglass window screen is. I don't want to add more to it as the eggcrate cuts down on some light as it is.

The only options I can think of are a canopy with screens or putting screens on the egg crate. The sump will help with heat but as the glass fogs up and gets covered with salt creep it will end up blocking light just like the screens. Maybe you should consider husbandry as well. Why did the six line jump? Seems like you may have a fish that is picking on it. I lost 2 or 3 fish before I realized a molly miller blenny was chasing them out of the tank...
