six line wrasse question

So my six line wrasse, the sweetest tempered fish I've ever met, just nipped at a nasarius snail. The snail (who's pretty fast for a snail) was just starting to go up the wall of the aquarium when the six line, who'd been watching him for a bit, nipped him and caused him to fall.

The snail then righted itself and kept on doing whatever it was doing. Do I need to worry about aggression like this, or was he just playing a practical joke?

I wouldn't worry about it. It probably had a copepod or something on the shell, that it was after. My pygmy angelfish and blenny were doing that to one of my snails last night that was near the substrate.

Fair 'nuff. He didn't nip the shell, though, he nipped his skirt (or whatever that fleshy carpet thing he rides on is).

Of course, there was a weird feeding frenzy going on at the time, with 6 hermets and another nasarius focusing on one area of the tank, while my fish and cleaner shrimp clustered around and watched. Was funny :)

I currently have a 6-line wrasse that has never caused a problem. 2fishy is probably right - don't worry about it too much but I would pay at least a little more attention to him for a while.

Way back when....before I even needed to shave everyday....I couldn't keep a snail alive in my tank to save my own life. Turns out my 6-line had aquired a taste for snails - especially the eyes. All day long he would cruise the tank looking for snails to pick at. When it came time to move the tank he went to the LFS.

they are known to pick @ snails and othere inverts but it is nothing i would be to concerned with unless you see it KILLING things.

Fair 'nuff. Good to know.

I've had some snails who have lasted forever, and a bunch who have died. Have no idea what the cause is :(

My two nassarius are okay, and I'd hate to see them get hurt.
