Six-Line Wrasse

I had one that was a complete terror of the tank. It wasn't always that way, when I first got him he was pretty calm and got along with everyone. As he got bigger he got much worse. I think I've read that they become more aggressive as they grow larger. It got to the point where it wouldn't leave anything alone and was impacting the quality of the other inhabitants feedings and everyday lives. I was finally able to get him in a homemade fish trap (good luck with a net!). I was very sorry to have to part with him, they are one of the most beautiful fish, IMO, but I would never add another one.

Mine is peaceful and a great addition. Peaceful in a group that consists of a powder blue tang, old, beat up ocellaris clown defending his hammer coral, and royal gramma.

Mine's great, but he's housed with other semi-agressive fish that can hold their own - a dottyback, a hawkfish, angels, saddleback clowns and a damsel. I think if they're housed with more timid tankmates they can turn into nightmares, and individual fish temperments vary as well. Proceed with caution ;)

Reefrick.M - sounds to me like your wrasse is hunting. They'll flash, tail-slap or otherwise disturb the sand to expose tasty little critters. The backwards swimming thing is probably what my boss at work calls 'tail slapping', basically he's telling the other fish that he's in charge and looking for a submissive gesture from them.

I have the 8-line wrasse which is basiclly the same but supposed to be more aggresive, but he is very docile never seen him hurt anything not even snails or shrimp.

My sixline is as docile as can be. Bothers none of my other fish; rainford and twin spot gobies; LMB, yellow tang; clownfish; yellow choris wrasse; foxface. Does not bother corals or shrimp.

It is obvious that this fish like many others can have differing personalities.

I had a 6line in a 20 gal with other fish(fire, watchman, anthias, tang) and always kept to himself. He jumped. I think they do wonders for flatworms!! Oh, I also had peppermint and skunk cleaner shrimp with him in there.
All fish species will have a hot tempered(high hormones) male in the bunch from time to time, sometimes ya' get him.

:celeb3: WWaaaHooooooHHooooo!!!:celeb1:  That was my 100th post, new avatar:rollface: Although, I sort of got used to Felix;)

i just added a 6 line to my tank on the weekend... hes swimming about getting picked on by my smallest green-blue chromis though the other fish dont really care about him... tangs dont seem to care either (sailfin, PBT)

What?

I'm no member of the tang police but that seems like a dangerously overstocked tank. And it has fish that shouldn't be there.

Maybe the sixline jumped to get some elbow room?

ACBlinky... I thought the same about slapping his tail in the sand. He's always on the prowl thru the LR. It just doesn't seem like he's looking for something to eat though after he slaps his tail in the sand. I think it's just to annoy me, I'm not sure my clams appreciate it either. I'm getting a fish trap and can only hope I can catch him.
