Sixline as last addition to 38 with clown and gramma?

I've been doing some reading on fish compatibility, and am planning out a reef tank that won't be set up for 6 months or so (trying to plan things out in advance). As for the fish . . . I've kept ocellaris clownfish and royal grammas, but haven't had success with a sixline from years ago (they didn't do well in my old tank, a 65 gallon soft coral reef with the common clown and royal gramma. No fish aggression that I recall, just . . . disappeared).

My understanding of the posts I've read is that a sixline wrasse is generally considered an aggressive fish as it gets older/bigger, and can turn on other fish even if they are bigger. This is especially true if other wrasses are present.

However, a minority have sixlines without problems, although I think that many of those people added the sixline last.

I guess my question would be - how many people would try adding a sixline to a 38 gal mixed reef with an established ocellaris clown and royal gramma (and a cleaner shrimp)? The only other options that I can think of that I'd be interested in would be 1) chrysiptera damselfish; behavior wouldn't be like a sixline but a nice blue color and would fit in, I think; 2) small reef safe fairy or flasher wrasse; or 3) pair up the clown or the gramma just to watch the behaviors. That would probably mean buying a mated pair.

I would like to stick with aquacultured, if possible.

A candy basslet would be a really nice 3rd choice if I knew that the gramma wouldn't be aggressive, would eat well, and I won the lottery to be able to afford one. ;-)

I've kept sixlines and even added them as the last fish and they still turn nasty once established. I think a small flashe wrasse would be nice or even a yellow watchman goby. The blue damsel might work. I keep a pair of them and they are pretty good citizens.

i never had issue with 6-line being aggressive. it really depends on the individual. most instances, i think its fine.

I had to return my sixline to the lfs yesterday. We added him last (I have a pair of oc.clowns, royal gramma and valentini puffer) we had the four for two months before adding the wrasse and the tank was growing at an awesome rate. Then I noticed my neon star polyps started disappearing. The royal gramma never accepted the wrasse always opening his mouth at him. It was a week ago we witness the wrasse ram the sides of the clowns viscously. Were planning on setting up a new tank and were hoping to put him in that but then saw him nipping at a new star polyp frag we bought that day. He was constantly attacking it and other corals and decided it was time for him to go. Beautiful fish but was a bully and a pain to get out of the tank. I felt terrible stressing him and my other fish, even though no one the other fish were scared of the net, it was like they knew it was his time to go lol. We could have caught the pair of clowns multiple times! i wouldn't recommend one.

found my gramma dead today.. i suspected the sixline and tore tank apart to get it out.
true it is a beautiful fish but i wouldnt try it.
