After many years of keeping fish i start to feel like i'm doing someting wrong .
I have kept fish only and reef tank and always i have keep my fish many years.
But today i lost my beloved Blond Naso tang that i had for over ten years.
the fish just did not have enough room in my seven foot long tank to swim just the way is in his real home...... the Ocean.
I will never get any more fish that it will get so big that it will crash in to the tank walls because he had no swimming space .
It was my second fish in a year that i lost because of this .
It is sad day for me today .
RIP.

Sorry to hear about your loss. That is a very beautiful naso. I also very much like that multi colored frogspawn, very nice.

Sorry to hear that. Are you sure it was tank size and not just one of those things because a seven foot long should suffice IMO. How big was the tang?

This fish was 2" when i got it, it was over 13+" long when he crash in to the rocks the other day .
This was not the first time this took place i had treat him before in my quarantine tank from him swimming so fast in to the tank that he will crash in to some SPS corals .
The fish will make like a tsunami wave in the tank i had to have large towels around the tank to catch the water when he was swimming so fast that the tank water will splash out of the tank, you just have to see it to belive it .
He crash in to a pointy Live rock head first and i did not think he was going to make it overnight and i was correct.

Wow! :eek1:

I do not think I've ever heard of a fish getting killed by impelling itself into a rock...who knew

That is very sad. My Blonde Naso is in a 6' x 4', 400 gallon. I've only had him for over a year and I'm already quite attached to him. Naso's are always so relaxed and moving around so slowly, but it only takes one moment of getting startled by something....

I hope mine is happy for at least 10 years and doesn't befall the same fate. I suspect that you've done better than most at 10 years.

Your experience is a great lesson for anyone considering adding a Naso to their tank. Thanks for sharing, even though it is sad news.

Yes my was swimming relaxed till i feed the tank after feeding he will start to get speeded up and swimming very fast he was just to cramp in the tank even so i got almost half the Live rock out off the tank last year to give him some extra room did not help much.
:mad2:

Don't feel bad! He may have been eatin by an eel the night after his capture so an extra ten years isn't so bad.

I'm so sorry for your loss. To many of us these fish become true pets, and if you had him for 10 years I can imagine how sad you must be. You gave him an excellent home -- your reef looks incredibly healthy, and a 7' tank is much more than most of us have to offer. I don't think you have anything to feel bad about at all. It sounds like this was an accident, nothing that was your fault.

Great advice on your unfortunate loss. As with many other problems that can saddan a reefer it took time to see its effects.

Zoom -- sorry about this.

I know what you are talking about the waves created by a large Naso. Many many many years ago I had to hold a 12"+ one for a friend for a couple of days ( moving a tank ) in a 55!!! The amount of water that was spilled was shocking. And could actually hear it swimming when it rushed from one end to the other -- all of a second to do.
