marc, you old timer you...its nice to see you posting here
my nitrates always measured between 10-20 (salifert) and even after doing hundreds of gallons of water changes over several months, they would not budge . my fish load has always been on the lower side too with several small fish.
i ran a section of my sump as an undersized fuge lit 24/7 and it wasn't big enough to make a dent (just not enuf room in the stand). during this time, i was battling some kinda light brown cyano/diatom algae on my ssb that would not leave either. i tried dosing vodka and it did bring them down to around 5 but a lot of the corals didn't respond well (stn/color loss).
after months of fine tuning/experimenting, i've got the nitrates down to 0-2 and the nasty algae under control. i found what seems to be working for me is 3ml of AZNo3 everyday and a 10% water change every other week. i've actually added more fish too . sorry for the long post.
Started it on August 1, 2006 and followed the instructions exactly for a month. then after some tweaking, came up with the 3ml per day for maintenance.
