Skimate smells so so so bad !!!!!!

I purchased and installed a Reef Octopus Super Reef 3000 Internal Skimmer
about 2 weeks ago for my 130g tanks. It skims about 2 inches every second day. When I take the skimmer to my laundry room to clean the collection cup the stench is so strong it permiates (sp?) through my entire house. Is this normal. My tank is medium stalked with Yellow tang, flame angel, clown and damsel. Some SPS, LPS, Softies, and polyps and zoos. Is this normal. I am going to buy some of those white face masks....I almost wretch when I am cleaning the collection cup.

lmao, my cousin opened the lid put his face dang near in the collection cup and took a deep smell. Last time he did that

Dump Skimmer outside for free fertilizer. Rinse with hose. No smell indoors! And yes, this is normal if you have a good Skimmer. Try dumping the cup from a 1200 gallon system. Nasty!!

It may smell bad , but just remember. (I think its a law) He who cleans the skimmer, Picks all the fish and corals! LOL

haha...cracked me up. I know, I know...but I have never had such a fowl stench permiate through my entire home. For the first time ever I was actually dry heaving....I just can't believe anything could smell that bad. I was literally ill for a couple hours after. I am going to bring it outside to clean....I have to. My first good skimmer....can't believe the difference.
