What is the minimum amount of space you can have under the 3140 skimmer? I have 11.5 inches of water level in my 16 inch high sump. That is the max I can get before the water level is higher then my micron sock and outlet pipe. I have get the skimmer as low as I can with the water level as high. I have about 10.5 inches of the skimmer covered with water. I do have free space under the skimmer for the water to flow but it is barely a 1/2 inch.
