skimmer 9016 and osmolator issue

Dear Roger,

I have a 9015 skimmer installed on a 135G and I have to admit I have problems with this unit. The skimmer is placed in tank, beside it a comline double filter, and level is maintained by osmolator unit fixed inside the double filter as mentioned in the instructions.

First off the skimmer does not function correctly. I get very dry skimmate and am unable to control it. The foam doesn't rise well inside the cup column. eventually the riser column gets so filthy that nothing collects in the cup The pump is new (6 months or so new ejet model) and the unit has been cleaned entirely at least three times since installed. My question is how can i regulate the flow.

When the skimmer was running the original pump the foam used to overflow the unit when the cup was off and the air intake was fully open. Now with the ejet pump the water level is 1.5 cm below the edge of the skimmer box with the air intake at 6 turns or fully open.

What can I do?

As for the osmolator the unit constantly turns on and off... it'll work correctly for a few hours then turn on/off until it empties out the reserve water. What could be the problem?

Thank in advance.

Hi, if I recall you are in Saudi Arabia which is usually 220V 60Hz? What country did you get the E-jet from. If you still have the 9015 pump it would be worthwhile to swap only the impeller blades there may be a size difference.

Do you use a wavebox or is there a wave or surge that may affect the osmolator? Does the float ever rise and sound an alarm.

Morning Roger,

Pleasantly surprised that you still remember. The original pump was 220V 50Hz, and you had suggested at the time (a few years back) that I change the impeller to the US model, which worked for a while. That same pump when immersed into the water just stops today. That is why I purchased the new ejet in 110V 60 Hz and run it through a transformer for the voltage adjustment. But the water doesn't rise in the body as it used to with the previous pump.

As for the osmolator I have it plugged in the double comline filter as per the instructions and whether I attach the filter with the plastic brackets or magnet it never functions properly. Previously it was in sump and away from all other electrical sources it wouldn't work properly.... I have no wave box in the tank and the floater cannot rise to the point where it rings as the reservoir tank only contains 15 L... alarm comes on when the reservoir tank is empty if I recall

For the skimmer, I would try the old impeller housing and old impeller blades if you still have them, I suspect one part has a defect.

For the filter, a picture of the osmolator installation would be a big help.
