I currently run an MRC-2 (non recirculating) powered by a big honkin reeflow wahoo pump. It does a great job. I'm just tired of running the big pump and the beckett maintenance.
I run the wahoo because I run the same pump from my basement sump for recirc. That way I have a backup if the recirc wahoo takes a dump. With a new skimmer I would just put the skimmer wahoo in storage until the primary wahoo needs bearings or a seal.
My tank is 3 years old, 150 gallon with 50 gallon sump. A lot of SPS, 5 anemone, 8 fish. Near perfect parameters. MRC Calcium reactor. 800w 20k halides. RKE with net. The system is really in autopilot.
I'm thinking of changing to the Reef Octopus Extreme 200 or 250.
Does anyone have any experience with this skimmer? Pro's Con's?
My first pick would be the MRC Reeflow Orca pro 1 but it's double the price.
If you were going to throw $500 at a skimmer what would it be?
Thanks for your help in advance.
