Skimmer break in

Any idea how long this usually takes? I just replaced my psk100 with a reef octopus class 150int. The reef octopus has been going crazy since install 48hrs ago. The attached picture shows what it's been doing nonstop. I get it needs to build up a slime coat, but is it best to run the skimmer on full blast or to leave the exit wide open?
I don't recall my psk100 taking this long to break in but I could be wrong.
It doesn't help that over Christmas weekend I did a chemiclean hit too, probably making the skimmer go more crazy.

And yes that is plastic wrap on top of the skimmer to help reduce splash on the stand.

If I'm not mistaken you are supposed to turn off the skimmer when running chemiclean.

If you had it off during the chemiclean, here is a FAQ from Boyd Enterprises that addresses your issue: http://boyd--enterprises.com/chemiclean-faq/

Aside from that, it does take time to break in, there is no need to have the unit running wide open producing bubbles as in the picture. Turn it down so that all of the bubbles are contained within the neck of the unit just beneath the top where they would overflow into the collection cup.

Well that was the thing it was running wide open, no restriction. Anyhow, this morning it seems to have finished doing what it needed too. I can control my bubble level and have it set better now than before. As it breaks in I'll keep making adjustments.

Personally, I had a really hard time dialing in that same skimmer in my sump once i thought I had it right I would come back hours later or day later to overflowing skimmer cup.

Hopefully I don't have that problem because that's what I was having with my psk100. Also I am adding biopellets to my system so tats why I wanted to up the skimmer.
