Skimmer Broke :(

Deltec all the way if you're looking for an HOB skimmer - they come around used quite often - even new they are under $300.

Agree 100 percent. I dont have one, but from what I have heard and seen, they are the best hob skimmers you can get...

Water changes are used to replenish the elements that have been used up by your livestock, algae's, coral etc... the other use's for water changes are in the events of high nitrates or emergency's.

The chemistry section is got alot of articles going into more details about proper levels, what to test for, how much to dose, etc..., and some of it can get confusing. That's why I mentioned a calcium reactor earlier since to me, this looks to be the simplest/laziest way to maintain our water chemistry not to mention that you'd be adding stability to your water which our coral/fish appreciate also. You could literally go months without a water change and alot of people do.

@mullins
thx for the advice
the deltecs look great...
if a sale happens i'll definitely jump on it, hopefully i can find one used!
@ chris 27
what do they cost used?
@ King Richard
that would make things easier!
even just once a month changes would be better than right now
i will definitely check out the chemistry forum!

alright so here's the plan...(hopefully i can post links:))
I'm gonna skip the calcium reactor for the simple reason that i heard a few bad things about using them on nanos.
so i've narrowed my choices down to the eshopps skimmer http://www.fosterandsmithaquatics.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=3578+4392+19865&pcatid=19865
because that skimmers cheaper i could also get an RO/DI

on the other hand i could go for the Deltec... http://www.marinedepot.com/ps_ViewI...ry=FIPSHONW&child=DD1511&tab=4&option1=MCE300
it seems like a very solid skimmer but i couldn't get the RO/DI water filter

so now I'm just looking for opinions on which to get..
any helps appreciated!!!

I have really liked reef octopus products that I have used, great value.
The deltec mce600 is amazing but the price is really up there

the reef octopus definitely was the best value but i'd rather have a better skimmer or a skimmer/ RO/DI filter.
monetarily the reef octopus skimmers just aren't quite right.

I'd go with the less expensive skimmer and the ro/di unit. I believe pure water for top off amd changes will do more for you in the long run.

If you don't get the water unit now, make it next on your list either way. Just my opinion...
