Skimmer choice for around 500$

So I'm kind of torn between a vertex omega 180i or the nyos quantum 160. I have a 125 sps tank with a medium to high bioload... and hopes in the future of a wider 180 or 220 gallon build. Please any input would greatly help as my current skimmer is capping out as we speak

I'd go with the vertex. Well established and reliable pump. Could scale up to the 180.

For me, especially for Sps, I wouldn't buy anything less than 3x your bio-load regardless of brand.

If you plan to go bigger later, all the more reason to oversize & don't limit yourself by cost if a larger skimmer is $100 or more to get the job done right.

Lol......... obviously I'm talking reputable brands with successful track records..........not just any skimmer.
In other words, if he decides on a Vertex, I'd suggest going 3x what they recommend..........and I'd say the same with any top brand he chooses.

You could look at the AquaMaxx line of skimmers, I heard good things about them and they are priced right.

I'd also take a look at Lifereef skimmers. You can get 24 inch model for around $500.

Going with lifereef I'd suggest he just get the 30" and it'll handle all the tanks he's mentioned.

I bought an SRO 6000ext with neck cleaner and extra nib pump for 450 and a SRO 5000int for 350 both used, but in phenomenol condition. One was on here and another on my local board. I love Reef octopus. Great reliability and great price

Mine was a tad bit over $500 but the regal 170-sss is a nice skimmer. It's quite and and skims like mad!
