i found a swc xtreme 200 for $289 rated 175-350 gallon pending bio load OR the reef octopus 8 rated up to 250 gallon for $279. HMMMMM hard choice. need some help!!! its for a 150 gallon tank with a 75 gallon sump. and i want a skimmer to be able to handle anything i do now or in the future. right now as you can see im stuck between the swc and the octo. what do you think?

ATB Econo 840, I-Tech 200, Super Reef Octo XP 3000 cone Just to mention a few that are better than the ones you listed. If you go by price only and not quality you will be upgrading when you are not happy with what you bought. JMO

i would love to buy higher end equip, but im on a tight budget and $100 extra for the octopus 3000 is alot to fork out when i really want to put that $100 toward led lights.

In the long run it never pays off buying cheaper because you will wind up upgrading sooner or later and it alway's happens. I am on my 100th Skimmer at least!

been looking for about a week so far, the only thing i have found is off brand skimmers or skimmers almost the same price as a new one

I think the $100 more spent on the skimmer is a better investment than the LEDs. LEDs are not really an essential necessity and you can always upgrade to them later. JMO

once you get your led up and running the way you want, i would love to see what they look like if thats okay, no rush. once again thanks for you help and now i have over 50 post ;)

Here is the first thread with that ATB skimmer for sale in Dec with a different pump on it. Same guy. He then sold the pump and has put the eheim on it. I might pass on this one as the performance could be a little less than desirable. Still ATB is a skimmer that has been an industry standard for a long time the 1050 is really a monster even for a 150. There is another ATB on the selling forums that has not been modded it is the step down from this one but in better shape. This one is a great deal even if you have to cap the recirc and get a new pump you might still come out ahead. At one post in his thread history he offered up the skimmer with out the pump for $100 less but that was at a much higher price. At 400 you could then purchase the OEM pump and come out ahead for a skimmer that is rated well above your tank I think the pump would be around 200 but I could be wrong. I would go to Salty Critter up here in NE Ohio www.saltycritter.com get a 840 econo for 600 which is a great deal from an AMAZING STORE. They are a dream to deal with really great people. rated at 240Gal light bio. Salty has amazing customer service and is known far and wide this would be a good skimmer for a 150 IMO

Just to clarify..the skimmer originally came with the eheim pump from ATB..go check their website. I bought it to use in conjunction with the MSX pump on my tank. I wasn't getting any bites selling it with the MSX pump, so I decided to sell the MSX pump and sell it with the original pump. My price is very firm, 400 would be an insult. I hate to let it go for 500.

That being said, to the OP, its more skimmer than you need for a 150g unless you are seriously over stocked.
