skimmer footprint question

The footprint on a skimmer says 14x7. Now does that mean it will fit into a box that is 14x7, or does the plumbing and hardware stick out further? I am in the middle of building a sump and wondered if i left 17x9 in the skimmer area will it be enough?

anyone.....an internal skimmer....does it take up much more room than the footprint???

I am new to the hobby but as I understand it, the "footprint" is the required space for the skimmer in order to fit in the sump. This includes pumps, pipes, etc. Hope that helps.

it is an H&S In-Sump Skimmer 150-F2001 soon to be buying one.

A footprint of 14"x7" will fit in a space that size or larger... if you modify it differently from factory specs, then the footprint may be larger or smaller depending on your mods.

so it is safe to say that the skimmer will take up no more than the stated footprint.

17x9 should be plenty for the H&S 150. I don't like the fit to be too tight, so I like to allow an inch on each dimension or 15x8 minimum.
