Do you still have the 5000?? If not, I think I might have talked to you about buy it awhile back..

No, there was a guy who lives in Kansas City that made a road trip for it. As I remember, he had a large fish only system that he was going to use it on. I can't remember his RC handle and he doesn't post very often.

the GEO looks like a champ. How did that skim in comparison to the MTC ?

I have an ETSS downdraft that skims well, maybe i should upgrade to the bigger one?

Due to the sheer size of the Geo and the fact that it is fed via an Iwaki 70RLT through a single beckett and recirculated with a Baldor Dart NW (new design NW from Reef Specialty), there is just no comparison. It simply kicks BUTT.

Also take a look at the MRC pro series the one with the fella standing near the blue skimmer. Give them a call. The pro series uses a pin wheel design.

nanook - where did you get that skimmer? That is something i'd be interested in. Looks like it could handle a few thousand fish coming and going :)

Thank you everyone for the help and conversation in the thread - i hope it is helping others too !

I talked to GEO just the other day.. for a 18"x 60" tall with drain for the head and a drain for the main chamber, hammer head pump w/ NW. I would even supply the pump.. I was looking at around 3500.00..

I don't know if he could do it or not but reefmania.net does alot of speacial orders and I have heard of his ps12 on a 1500 gallon system. plus the owner is really helpful.

Also check out reefconcepts.com, Frank makes skimmers of all size up to 6 feet. Im sure he can make a skimmer at whatever size you need!

ETS 1000 wont be efficient. I have one on an iwaki 70 on my 1200 gallon system and it is barely enough (granted it is usually well stocked) The ETSS 5000... now that would be nice :)

ill try reefconcepts as well

I was not saying the 1,000 was big enough for the 3,000 gallon system, just saying it is a good skimmer with some minor modifications.
I run +- 2,800 gph through my skimmer on my 500 system. and have had good results.

There are a lot of good skimmers out there. However, its hard to find a budget skimmer that will adequately handle that kind of volume.

Personally, if you have a fixed budget in mind, I would consider scouring for used equipment or perhaps run multiple skimmers.
