Hey guys,

So, I sold my 50g finally and officially upgraded to a 29g! Specially, the Coralife BioCube 29 gallon.

Dr. Foster/smith was having a 35%-50% sale and for the same cost I sold my old tank, I can buy this one. Good deal in my eyes.

What I want to know, is what skimmer would work best ( and fit ) in this tank.

Details of the tank.

Have heard of a few skimmers, read reviews, watched youtube videos. Just starting my own thread to see others opinions. Thanks! :bounce1::bounce1:

Options are limited. Best bet is always a HOB, but that defeats the purpose. By far the most popular is the Tunze 9002, but you will need the custom intank collection cup. Most are pretty happy with that skimmer. The Hydor ones get mixed reviews but some swear by them.

l also just setup the same tank and am in the same situation as you are. From what i see there are some good options.

1st is the cadlights pls 50. The reviews on this skimmer are all positive and i haven't Read anything bad about it. You just need to be patient and let it break in. You can pick one up new for around a 100. This will go in chamber 2

Then seems to be the aquaticlife 115. There is some kind of airline mod that Increases its performance but the reviews seem to be 50/50 on it. These go for about $60 new and if I remember right it can fit in chamber 1 with a slight mod to the tank lip.

Hydor slim skim nano seems to get mixed reviews also but it can also fit in chamber 1.
Tunze 9002 seems to be good if you mod it but you need to buy the intank collection cup to get it to fit.

There is also a new one from Innovative marine called the ghost. I read that its noisy but it is a great skimmer.

I am personally leaning towards the pls50 although if they quiet down the ghost i might try it. Good luck and let me know what you get.

This.. This was exactly what I was looking for. Thank you for your input. Since its a all in 1 aquarium, biggest issue is fitting. ive been looking recently at the 9002/9004 tunze. hydor is having a sale on foster.. etc. so many, yet so few options.

Again, thanks !

I have a 9002 in a coralife 29. It's a great skimmer, but it can be a bit touchy to get dialed in. It likes to plug the injection elbow with salt creep, requiring some finesse to get clean again, and the water level has to be constant, so the bubbles have the proper distance to climb. If the level is low, it wont skim, and if its too high, it will just fill the collection cup with water.

If you have an auto-topoff, I'd recommend it without thinking twice. Without one... :headwally:

Yeah first thing I decided to get was auto top off.. i hate the evap from nanos... Its too intense... Somedays it can climb from .24 to .26 .. Once i even woke up to see .28

just got my tank today... I'd love to keep the hood on, but I have a new lite.. The reef breeders nano lite... And I dont think it would work very well being that close to the water.. Otherwise, id just cut the other lights out and use that...
