Skimmer going crazy

I purchased a SCA-302 skinner a couple of months ago. It has been working great. It took only a couple of days to break in and has been pulling nice skimate. I changed my over flow box last weekend and now my skimmer is overflowing like crazy.
I turned off the skimmer for 2 days to see if it would settle down. As soon as I plugged it back in it just filled up and overflowed. The entire time the skimmer was running good it was in about 9" of water. I lowered the water level to 8" but that didn't help.
Anyone have any suggestions on what to do to get my skimmer running well again?

My oct 3000 works best at 6.75 inches... hates being anywhere above that

Have you adjusted the drain pipe to make it more open? Have you used epoxy lately for rocks or coral? that stuff will screw your skimmer for days. Raising the skimmer may help. Sit it up on egg crate or something to get it to 6-7 inches and see if that helps.

You mentioned that you changed your overflow box before the skimmer started overflowing. Can you be a little more specific about that change?

If your skimmer has one of those baffles with all the holes in the top, look to see if there is not a piece of algae stuck in one of the holes. That happened to me a week ago and it took me 2 days to figure it out.
