Skimmer going crazy

I did not add anything to my tank today and my ASM skimmer went out of control. The collection cup was filling up every 15 minutes. I think one of my fish spawned. My Fusi Goby has been digging big holes lately - something it never did before. I think it may have been the culprit. All my SPS are fully extending their polyps so i guess its free food. I thought it was just detritous floating around in the water colum. Should I keep emptying the collection cup? Do fish spawn during the day?

thanks

the only time my skimmer goes nuts is when I epoxy frags. Not sure about the fish spawning thing.

OK - it slowed down again. Back to normal after three or four full collection cups.

My skimmer skims more after I epoxy frags too. But not like it did tonight.

yeah, last time with expoxy I had to cut the bottom out of a drinking paper cup and flopped it over the riser increasing the height the bubble had to go through prior to falling back to the collection cup. I was getting tired of having to empty out the collection every ten minutes.

Mine goes nuts when I pour beer in my sump.

josh

this is why I don't drink and reef at the same time.

overflowed last night because of epoxy i assume

Hey guys I was putting some expoxy in my tank for a few frags when I noticed my Skimmer was supper skimming lots of boubles to the point that it'd overflow. It's so crazy that I had to turn it off, it would overflow within a minute or less.

What is the solution? Just wait and turn it on later or is there something else to do?

increase the height of the riser with a drinking paper cup but don't turn it off. See my post above.

teamera,
when you changed your sock, was the new sock washed in your washing machine? did you use detergent/soap?

oopppsss,

I turned it off last night already. i'll try to kick it back on tonight after work, and if it still overflows i'll use your drinking cup trick...

What causes the boubles to go crazy like this? I've used epoxy before but only in little amounts. Last night I used almost a full stick.

Mine did that once. Figured out later that we beleive my bubble coral spawned in the tank. Water was milky, didn't put anything in the tank, all fish died. Looked like they were gasping for air on the bottom of the sand. All corals survived though. I had the bubble in that tank for about 6 years when this happened. Still have it today but in a 400 G tank. It's about the size of a soccer ball when opened.

it could be like a saponification effects.....mixing detergent and water. I could be wrong.:D

Man my skimmer is still going nuts.... water looks fine, no cloudiness. This epoxy is screwing things up.

I have carbon running in there already, but don't have extra to add in more. Gotta wait till tommorrow to fix things then.

I'm planning on a water change tommorrow as well.

hope its fixed by tommorrow

I used epoxy and I must have dumped about 7 x 5gal bottles. Then all the frags died or almost die the next day. I never use epoxy again, maybe glue or just let it sit on my live rock is much better.

I don't know the brand of the top of my head. But I bought it from marine depot a yr or two ago.

My skimmer is still not functioning... Boubles are still going crazy... it's like it's on steroids or something.

I will definitely put new carbon in tonight, and do a 15%-20% water change.

All corals seem to be doing okay from what i could see.

Yah! IT works again..

Friday I bought some carbon, but didn't get a chance to replace the old carbon bags in my tank till saturday. I ran the new carbon overnight, and Sunday afternoon I fired up the Skimmer again it it works.... No more crazy skimmer boubles that overflows..

Thanks all for the help.... I'll think twice, or at least know what to expect when using epoxy.....

thanks again
