Skimmer/heater

I have a 29g with a bakpak skimmer. I don't have a sump, and the space inside the tank is limited. Is there any reason that I can't just put the heater in the part of the skimmer that would normally have the "biobale" (or whatever it is they call their media)?

I will probably have to adjust the setting on the heater to get the same temp as when it was in the tank. I don't think a temporary temp swing is going to be a big deal in that my tank is still cycling and only has live rock in it as of yet.

that would be fine, just make sure that the water level stays high enough to cover the heater at ALL times, power on and power off.

As long as the heater would always be submerged (some levels in the tank will fall due to evaporation) and receive continuous flow, it would be fine.

I've just started wondering this as well. So glad you posted this question. Any thoughts on putting the heater in the refugium?

Uhhhmmmm... might want to get a heater cage, don't want it to melt a hole in the plastic. I had a titanium heater melt threw a rubbermaid 150..... talk about a mess!

If your heating your 240 tank, of course it would melt plastic.....hes heating his 29 gallon.

Don't worry about the melting plastic.
