Skimmer help/advice....

Been having a play with my skimmer whilst my cycle is going along. Just so I fully understand what I'm doing when the time comes to start adding livestock. I started off and the skimmer was just overflowing immediately and filling the cup with water no matter how I had the air intake set. Anyway, I have raised it up a little in the sump but am struggling to find a balance. It's other overflowing or the bubbles are sat the level you can see in my photo. Where should the bubbles be in relation to the cup?

The skimmer model is Marine Sources Devil Streamline Protein Skimmer DSL-850 <850L

I don't have that specific skimmer but I would say thats probably a good bubble level for now..
SKimmers do usually have a break in period of a usually up to a week or so.. (not sure how long you've had it setup for)..
But keep it there and see how it goes IMO..

Thanks. I've woken up this morning at there are actually some really big bubbles above the smaller bubbles now that are sort of just creeping over into the cup. I guess it's actually working. There's a small amount of dark yellowish liquid(I think it's dark yellow but I'm colourblind. Lol) in the bottom of the cup.

Yep. Very happy as I just had this feeling it was gonna be another thing to give me a big head ache.lol

Whilst your here, (off topic) what do you think of my proposed stock list? Can u see any compatibility issues or size problems?

2 x Clown Fish
1 x Yellow Tang
1 x Yellow Watchman Goby
1 x pistol shrimp
1 x neon cleaner goby
6 x lyretail anthias (1 x male and 5 x females)

Tank is 120cm long x 53cm x 53.5 cm

Tangs need a lot of swimming room. The Anthias will need to fed 2 to 3 times a day I suggest an auto feeder.

That being said the recommended tank size for a yellow tang is 120 gallon I think

Thanks. So do you think I should scrap the yellow tang? Are there any smaller tangs that would be suitable for a tank my size?

I have an auto feeder on standby.

A Kole Yellow Eye, or a bristle tooth only need a 70 gl. If you are not planning on corals look into the Dwarf angles to me they remind me of mini tangs and have some spectacular colors

Thanks. I really like the look of those Kole yellow eye tangs. More so than the yellow tang actually.

I do plan on having corals eventually.

Two other really neat looking fish but you need a top is the Flame Hawk and the Long Nosed Hawk lost of personality
