Skimmer help for my 30 gal.

I Recently decided to go for a 30 gal reef system. I have heard that a protein skimmer will take out trace elements. I found one on the internet that looked decent.

Should i just do more water changes or save up and get a better one. I have a very limited budget... It also needs to be a hob.

If you do not have a sump you will need good water circulation and a strong skimmer to over skim. Octo has a lot of options Euro Reef has a new line. You could also buy a used on the for sale forum. You could watch for Deltic MCE 300 or MCE 600.

A skimmer does not take out trace elements, it removes fish waste. I would save up until you can get a better one. Do at least 10% water changes per week.

You can buy a used aqua c remora or cpr hang on back skimmer typically for around $50. They will be adequate with light feeding and bioload.

I have owned both and they are decent.

Deff avoid sea clone and red sea prizm.
