Skimmer Help????

To answer an earlier question yes the deltec is made to be run External , you can run it in sump though.
Not to bash to much but I started with an Aquac then Euro now deltec. I just wish i had bought the deltec first. Even though the deltec cost 600+ it still would have been cheaper than buying a 500 euro and a 300 aqua c that and I had to buy 2 mag pumps to run it. 2 because i first tried a mag 7 and that was not strong enough even though aqua c said it would then had to buy and try the mag 9, which worked a little better . So 1,000 bucks for 2 skimmers that really did not cut it or on 600 dollar one that puts the others to shame. IMO the aqua c always needed attention and was a major pain in the butt. Change tank water it would over flow for hours if i did not slow the flow then hours later have to re adjust . Imo any venturi or beckett require a lot of tinkering and adjusting , needle wheels on the other hand are pretty much set and forget with no big pump to buy or run.
Feed the tank would not foam for hours. like I said just way to much tinkering with . The deltec on the other hand WOW. All i ever do is clean the cup TWICE a week. I have owned it for about a year now and I am still impressed every time I empty it.

Deltecs are, from everything I've read, among the very best and easiest to use. Like I mentioned, I may well get one for another tank in a month or so after a planned vacation. However, frank, I wonder why you had so much difficulty setting the Aqua-C and just letting it run without additional tinkering with it. I did have one difficulty, myself, and the owner of the company actually told me how to set it and once I did it the way he advised, it was all it needed. I've cleaned the "Spray Inductor" only three times since I got it over two years ago and it only showed signs of needing it once of the three times. Frank...I'm curious...was your Aqua-C plumbed in the sump or outside, dry?

was in sump. The tinkering I refer to is having to re-adjust after water changes. Or it not foaming after feeding or just putting my hand in the tank. or going nuts after I fragged, or having to re-adjust if my calcium got a litte high or if there was a change in gravity. ....or , well you get the point.

Being that it was in the sump may be a difference. But, after I feed...after I frag with epoxy...after anything that had any effect on the foaming...I don't do anything to the skimmer...I just leave it alone and let it resume foaming and skimming on its own. It resumes every time.

Well, Latino...if you can't decide which one to buy, you can always decide to make one.

Nice job, reefrubble. Since you wouldn't make one for me, I had to buy a skimmer. Life just ain't fair.

I didn't make it,my best friend made it for me. His user name is Steven M,and he has pics on his web site ,of how he did it.

WOW that thing is Huge!!!!!!. How tall is it? very nice tho!

I don't mind a DYI. I've been following the 5G jug skimmer thread to see what comes of that. Is ther any other threads that you know of?

Thanks,The reaction chamber is about 48",add the riser, and cup, about 60" . I don't have any links, but do a search ,in all the DIY forums. There are a lot of threads on just about any kind of DIY sKimmer you can think of.

Guy's thank you for all your help... I have chosen a winner... LOL

it was between a Deltec apf600 and aquac ev 180/240...

I was able to get my hands on a used EV - 240 for $326. I already have a LG 4 to power this thing so that is all I have to pay. The wife is happy with this... I was having a hard time justifying a $614 skimmer... lol... damn women.... hehe

Hey guys... I got my 240 last night and got it connected (for testing) to my LR COOKING/CURING bins and I already made my 1st mistake! I connected the drain line to a 5 gal bucket instead of back in the bin... I woke up at 3AM to ~5 Gal of extra water on the floor.... I'm such a tool!

what kills me is that the instructions it say to put the damn drain line back in the tank for a few days and me being the tool that I am didn't pay attention... O well needless to say... the damn thing is working....

Guys thank you for all the help on this. So far, I'm very happy with my not so new skimmer (got it on Ebay).

Here are some pix of the EV 240 connected to my LR cooking bin. It is being feed by a LG 4
