skimmer in fresh water ?

does a skimmer work different in fresh water then saltwater , im testing a diy skimmer out to see if it will work , bubbles , air , leaks ... ect

yes skimmer will not work in freshwater from what ive heard there will be no bubbles or barely any

fresh water has a higher surface tension than salt which makes the bubbles less stable. Surfactants like soap lower surface tension which allows bubbles to be more stable in fresh water.

yup just tryed it anyway for a clean out run before i puit it in my tank, just about no bubbles at all

did the same thing and wondered why no bubbles so I googled it. good thing there was no web when I was a teen, never would have left the house, no porn intended just curious about so many things.
