Skimmer keeps over-foaming

I just added the sand into the tank and turned the skimmer in to try and clear the water up. It keeps over foaming now. I raised the collect cup and that didn't seem to help at all. Any suggestions?

never used the hob protein skimmer because they dont work that well, better to have an insump one, but maybe someone else can answer that for you

I beg to differ. My eshopps psk75 hob does a real nice job. Although I don't use it anymore due to the need for a heftier skimmer. I still run it on my display just for added skimming.

As for skimming with sand do what the other person suggested. Let it settle on its own. Assuming you used live sand the skimmer is probably freaking out from that.

You can leave the cup on as well. May want to drain the skimmer to get any possible sand particles out if any got in there. I don't think they would harm anything though.

I have this model skimmer. You have the collection cup too deep. You need to raise the bottom edge above the water over flow hole going into the section where the gray pipe returns the water to the tank. It's on the right of the section the collection cup is in if you are standing on the back side of the tank. Its on the left if you are looking at it from the direction you have your pictures. It's on the dividing wall about 2.5 inches or so down.
Raise the cup up until it's above the hole.
You can lower it back down later when it's not skimming so much but most of the time you will need to keep that hole open so the overflow does not shoot up the skim collection cup neck.

You need to have the right side intake up more as it is too deep. You should be skimming the top. I had to trim the pipe on mine to make it fit. Slide it up until the collection thing is about 1/2 in out of the water. Not the clear part, just the top.

In sump skimmers are better than hob I thought I have a good skimmer until I bought the nyos 220. I need to empty the cup everyday and it smells like dead. That's all I was saying. Not saying they don't work just saying there not as efficient as insump ones

Ah, yes I agree. In sump is definitely better but some hob can do some mighty fine performance.

Wow, blanket statement...

Ask most reefers if hob or insumps are better I bet it would be 10 out of 10. But this is getting off topic and not really helping the op. We are hear to help the op not debate skimmers.

Now that the statement has changed from "hobs don't work well, to in sumps are better" I agree.

Your very precise. Sorry I should of stated they don't work as well as in sump. My bad

Where does the air tube attach? On the directions they sent me it showed it was attached to the pump that went inside the tank. I appreciate the help y'all. I'm a newbie at this stuff.
