i would turn off the skimmer. this will settle in a day on it own
I beg to differ. My eshopps psk75 hob does a real nice job. Although I don't use it anymore due to the need for a heftier skimmer. I still run it on my display just for added skimming.never used the hob protein skimmer because they dont work that well, better to have an insump one, but maybe someone else can answer that for you

As for skimming with sand do what the other person suggested. Let it settle on its own. Assuming you used live sand the skimmer is probably freaking out from that.

Ah, yes I agree. In sump is definitely better but some hob can do some mighty fine performance. In sump skimmers are better than hob I thought I have a good skimmer until I bought the nyos 220. I need to empty the cup everyday and it smells like dead. That's all I was saying. Not saying they don't work just saying there not as efficient as insump ones

Wow, blanket statement...
Ask most reefers if hob or insumps are better I bet it would be 10 out of 10. But this is getting off topic and not really helping the op. We are hear to help the op not debate skimmers.
